Abstract

In his famous ‘Medžmua’ (collection), Mula Mustafa Ševki Bašeskija brings us the oldest ethnographic and folkloristic notes of a Bosniak about their own culture. In his nearly sixty years of recording events of chronicle and obituary provenance, we obtained the certainly most vivid picture of a city that has ever been created in the area much wider than the Balkans. His ethnographic notes in the field of material culture are particularly focused on recording items of clothing, among which hats stand out as the most common signifier of the citizens of Sarajevo at that time.
